The exhibitions taking place as part of the festival this year are listed below in date order of their opening. All exhibitions are free. Some invite you to join them for an opening reception evening which is a great opportunity to meet the artists, designers or architects and to chat to people. You may need to book.
 
 Thursday 10th
 
Visioning the Future: A Look at Design Visualisation
 
This ground-breaking exhibition will inspire visitors with a look at some behind the scenes work on well known architectural projects, and highlight the role of good architectural visualisation imagery in realising great modern buildings.    The exhibition will show how enlightened designers integrate computer generated imagery and 3D  computer modeling into the wide range of activities  that go into conceptualising, designing,  constructing and realising a great building.

Designing out CO2 in Durham
 
Within the context of the North East Festival of Architecture – Designing Out CO2, the purpose of the exhibition is to celebrate the fantastic array of sustainable buildings, outstanding architecture and low carbon technologies seen throughout County Durham. The exhibition shows how good design can be both stylish and modern while limiting the negative environmental impact of developments and mitigating climate change.

 Thursday 17th
 
Northumbria University Architecture Degree Show
 
The end of year Architecture Show will exhibit fantastic work from students on undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses at Northumbria University.
 
This year, undergraduate projects consider the historical legacy and contemporary issues surrounding sites at Housesteads, Otterburn, Blanchlands and Langley.
 
Professional Diploma projects include work on working-class culture in the city and the seaside, and creativity, engineering and enterprise in Redcar in the wake of the closure of the blast furnace by Corus.
 
An opening reception will be held on the first night of the exhibition.

 Friday 18th
 
BA/ BArch Graduation Shows, Newcastle University
 
Newcastle University's School of Architecture is going public again this year. BA and postgraduate (BArch) students will stage separate exhibitions sharing their projects.
 
 BArch Graduation Show - 18-22 June
 
 Deeply concerned with social and environmental matters, the BArch student’s projects demonstrate imagination and a true sense of responsibility within our contemporary society/world as they exhibit design proposals for a variety of sites and issues.

BA Graduation Show 22 - 26 June
Opening Evening Monday 21 June 6-8pm
 
‘Now[here]: Learning to Belong’ presents three educational projects by BA students that each engage with the nature and relationship of community, individuals and place. They ask, ‘can architecture make us happy?’

 Saturday 19th
 
Beach Life Balance
 
“Beach Life Balance” is an exhibition of young people’s design models of “Low Carbon” beach huts. This exhibition takes place in two of the beach huts at Blyth beach and has been commissioned by Inspire Northumberland.
 
The exhibition is a part of European Energy Day for Northumberland, and, with Architect, Tim Bailey and artists from Xsite Architecture, will raise awareness of energy saving and sustainability through exciting and innovative design solutions.

 Wednesday 23rd
 
Sunderland Looking Up
 
Come and see an artist’s take on Sunderland Architecture! Artist group ASSIGN are putting an artist’s slant on Sunderland’s past, present and perhaps future. Visit their exhibition in a little known architectural gem: a historic converted grain warehouse in the heart of Sunnyside, Sunderland’s Cultural Quarter.

Architecture of the North East: A Photographic Exhibition
 
Join Steve Mayes at the Biscuit Factory for a photographic celebration of the architecture of the North East.
 
His stunning shots capture familiar landmarks and abstract details from the region, and will leave you with a renewed appreciation for the North East’s urban environments.
 
Drinks and a bite to eat will be served on the opening night. Please let us know if you would like to attend. Otherwise, just drop into the exhibition during the opening hours below.
