Tours

The tours are a really fun part of the North East Festival of Architecture. Whether hard hat tours, city tours, building tours, walking tours, interior tours, eco-tours or on-line tours, they give everyone a chance to see face to face new architecture and new ways of looking at architecture in the region.

All tours running as part of this year’s festival are listed below in date order. We are happy to say that all of this year’s tours are free but there are limited places for all so be sure to book early to avoid disappointment.

Tyneside Cinema

Tour Newcastle’s newest cinema with the scheme's Conservation Architect, Cyril Winskell.

The man who built the Tyneside in 1937 thought a film should be an event and set out to design a picture palace, complete with mosaics and oriental decoration, which began the job of transporting you out of your everyday from the moment you crossed the threshold.

You will be given an experts guide to the beautiful spaces inside the building and will be introduced to the final part of the Tyneside Cinema restoration, which is now in place; architect Peter Yates’ 1976 mural, originally displayed in the old Cinema Electra screen.
